Details
This is a new design based on Scott Cottier’s brief, which was a tough call because he stipulated the site to be highly individual and present the tough image of military fitness training without overbearing. It needed to comply with some strict requirements like no scrolling in the main chamber area, individual light box forms for the challenge page and contact form, and a consistent look and feel that allures to, but does not utilise military thematics or objects per se.
Solution
We went through a rigorous Logo creation curve to come up with a funky but tough SpecForce Brand. One thing became clear from the start was that this website needed a mysterious,
dramatic entrance. This was accomplished with a wonderful java script that raises the front door on mouse hover and reveals the metal and red logo, which floats in front of a stark concrete wall. The main “chamber” is a concrete boiler room with Titanium the stencilled SpecForce sign under a dramatic light cone. This page very much has the vibe of a game arena; and that is deliberate. Amongst other quirks you find a telephone, that changes color on mouse hover , which opens a lightbox contact form on a rugged steel tread plate.
We used content management software to allow SpecForce to make changes to the site from anywhere. (Some of their training happens in remote locations).
SpecForce also wanted a newsletter application integrated into the web interface, which we accomplished by integrating a newsletter application and custom designed the newsletter templates. Again a web application so all functionality is under one roof.
A custom Contact form was built to allow SepcForce to easily grab all the necessary information they need to pre-qualify a new client.
The Challenge page had to be in a “writing on the wall” style to make it visually distinct from the rest of the site, since this is the highest level of training achievement ,suffice to say we used multiple cascading styles heets…
And of course the entire site is xhtml compliant and there are no flash apps to keep the SEO up.
We also took care of all the Trademarking of the Specfore and raised the trademark application, advised on semiotics and liaised with the trademark office of New Zealand to accomplish all SpecForce protected Trademarks in the correct classifications.
